People of Mali.
The best known tribes of Mali are the
Dogon people who successfully escaping
Muslim expansion and preserved their
traditions and culture.
The Dogons are cliff dwellers who
have their irrigated farms around their
villages.
The Dogon still
occupy and continue to build the
same cliff dwellings today.
The Dogon always believed
the Earth was round and circled the Sun and
that there are eleven planets in the solar system.
Their masks, woodcarvings and dances are world famous.
Dogon boys over the age of 12 get circumcised at triennial
ceremony. Another of Mali's famous people are the 'blue'
or Tuareg tribes that settled in and around Tombouctou.
They are desert or nomadic tribes.
