Jordan
Jordan facts & history in
brief
Shobak or the Crusader fortress of Montreal.
Built on the top of the mountain,
not unlike a crown.
Visible for kilometres in
the surrounding stony desert.
Built in the early 11th century by
Baldwin I, on the main thoroughfare
of the time, between Kerak Castle
and Petra, was one of the first of
the Crusader Castles dotting
the Middle East.
Withstood many storming by Saladin
until he captured it in 1189.
The well built inside by the Crusaders
is one of the deepest well ever dug.
375 steps lead down to the well
from the Castle.
