Jordan facts & history in
brief
Kerak or Crak des Moabites, or Kir-Moab
and Kir Hare-seth of the Bible is about 1200 metres
above the surrounding plateau and the Dead Sea.
Kerak was a colossal Crusader stronghold for over 50
years, when Saladin took it in 1189.
Much of the fortifications were used to build the Muslim
town inside it.
