Kanchanaburi or The Bridge On The River Kwai

The Bridge on the River Kwai is near a little town of around 50 thousand people called Kanchanaburi, about 130 km west of Bangkok on the Khwae Noi River.
During WWII the Japanese used Allied prisoners of war to construct the railway to help their war efforts in Burma.
A book and a movie about the allied prisoners building the bridge put the sleepy, little town on the tourist' must see' route.
There are some temples and other attractions in the township as well.
