Mount Everest
The Himalaya Mountains, or
the Himalayas are the highest group
of mountains in the world.
The name in Sanskrit language
means the Snowy Range.
The Himalayas, a 2.410-kilometre curve
of towering mountains across Asia are
made up of several parallel mountain
ranges and join other mountain ranges
of Asia that stretch east and west.
The Himalaya rises in steps from the
plains of northern India.
Mount Kailas, 6,714 metres, in Tibet
is holy to Hindus and Buddhists and
believed to contain the thrones of
their gods and they make pilgrimages
from all parts of Asia.
Due to the many different altitudes,
a wide variety of climate, plant and
animal life can be found in the Himalayas,
like tropical, temperate, and cold
regions and plants like fig and
palm trees, to Deodar and pine trees,
animals such as Tigers, leopards,
rhinoceroses, elephants, yaks,
and monkeys can be found there.
Mount Everest, at the official height
is 8,848 metres, lies between Tibet and
Nepal, is the highest mountain
in the world.
K2, at 8,611 metres, in the Karakoram
Range in northern Kashmir, is the
world's second highest mountain.
Kanchenjunga, at 8,598 metres, between
Nepal and Sikkim is the third highest
mountain in the world.
I, being an adopted New Zealander I
can't help but to mention that
the first man to conquer Everest,
Sir Edmund Hillary
is a New Zealander.
Nepal was very interesting and
hospitable to us.
We spent days exploring
Kathmandu.
Taken a sightseeing flight
over the Himalayas.
And there are plenty of
Himalayas.
We did enjoy ourselves.
There are special flights to the
Himalayas from Kathmandu.
For US$100 per person you can go and
nearly touch these giants of the mountains.
The Himalayas looked awesome
from our plane window.
