NepalAsia Nepal is a south Asian country amongst the peaks and southern slopes of the Himalayas including Mount Everest, between China, Tibet, Sikkim, India and Kashmir. Rice, wheat and other crops are grown in the fertile valleys, and there are some large forests. In the south the natural vegetation is tropical and have some fine forests of evergreen, oak, chestnut and mahagony. From the 4th to the 10th century Nepal was under the influences and control of the Buddhist Licchavi dynasty, but was replaced by Hinduism from the 10th to the 18th century under the Malla dynasty. After the border war from 1814 to 1816 had to surrender some land to the British in the Treaty of Kathmandu, 1816. After the Treaty rule passed to the Ranas, a family of hereditary prime ministers, who were under British control and supplied the Gurkhas to the British and Indian armies. In the 1950 coup, power returned to the King Tribhuvan 1951 - 1955 and King Mahendra 1955 - 1972 with a more democratic form of government. After some unrest and many arrests the king agreed to a new more democratic constitution in 1990. Some changes of governments and policies followed since. The population is over 20 million. The capital is Kathmandu. The official languages is Nepali. Nepal of course got Mount Everest.
Nepal was very interesting and hospitable to us. We spent days exploring Kathmandu. Taken a sightseeing flight over the Himalayas. And there are plenty of Himalayas. We did enjoy ourselves.
