Japan facts & history
in brief
Nagoya
is the capital of Aichi prefecture on the
island of Honshu and one of the
largest cities in Japan.
Nagoya was the capital of a powerful
province of early Japan.
Ieyasu Tokugawa, a powerful lord
built the great Nagoya castle in 1610.
The castle was destroyed in WW II,
but was rebuilt again.
Nagoya is a important, manufacturing
centre making textiles, machinery,
pottery, porcelain, lacquer ware,
clocks, fans, and embroidery.
Population over 2 million.
A very nice city.
A very nice castle.
We were there during 'Cherry Blossom'
time, marvellous experience.
Office people, school kids reserved their places
to picnic and party and enjoy life under the
blossoming Cherry trees.
Tarpaulins, picnic baskets, bottles
of juices etc all over the place.
