Japan
Japan facts & history
in brief
Kobe
is on the south coast of Honshu
Island and one of the most
important seaports of Japan.
Was founded in the 1100's, and is an
important centre of heavy
industry, shipbuilding.
Kobe became important after Japan
began trading with other
countries in the 1800's.
Since the 1950s Kobe is Japan's leading
export and import centre.
On the 16th January, 1995, a strong
earthquake in the Kobe area
caused over 5,000 deaths and
extensive property damage.
Population about 2 million.
We couldn't find the 'conducted
sightseeing bus' stop after our
arrival at Kobe.
A pretty, friendly, young Japanese
lady (Kobe 1), who could speak good
English was running around for us
trying to found out where the bus
stops.
Once she found out the location, she walked us to it.
Thank you very much, hope you'll read this some day.
