Japan
Japan facts & history
in brief
Hiroshima
is the city where one of the first atomic
bomb was dropped on and lies on islands formed
by a river delta, in western Honshu.
From a fishing village, Hiroshima developed
rapidly by Asano family as one of Japan's
largest cities between 1600 and 1868.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's Hiroshima
experienced increased prosperity, industrial
and population growth and become
an important military centre.
On the 6th of August, 1945, a United States
Army plane dropped the first
atomic bomb on the city.
Three days later, another atomic bomb
was dropped on Nagasaki city.
Japan surrendered on the
2nd of September 1945.
Population over 1 million.
We joined a 'conducted sightseeing tour' of the
city, which included the 'Atomic Museum', 'Park' and
'The Dome' and many other places.
A memorable experience.
