San Diego
California, is a major naval and
aerospace centre of the United States.
Was founded in 1769, as Spanish soldiers
built California's first military fort,
because of the fine harbour.
It lies in the southwestern corner of
the country, on the United States-Mexico border.
A Franciscan priest, Junipero Serra,
established California's first mission
here the same year.
The name comes from San Diego
de Alcala, a Spanish saint.
Population about 3 million.
