Dunedin, New Zealand
New Zealand facts & history in brief
New Zealand Map
Port Chalmers
is 14 km from Dunedin and
the deep water container port
for the city with the
population of about 5000.
Commercial fishing, ship building,
marine engineering and other
light industry is
situated in the town.
Near the port on a rise is a
building housing one of the
few remaining marine clocks
it does have a proper name, but
although I tried a can't find any
reference to it.
Any way there's a large pole
at the top of the building and
a large ball gets pulled up to
the cross bar and at exactly 12 pm.
Midday the ball gets
drop to the bottom, and ships
used to adjust their clock to it.
The photo in this page showing the
tower with the ball at the bottom.
