Kingston Flyer
After visiting Queenstown in 1980,
I was looking forward to driving around
part of lake Wakatipu to Kingston to
meet up with the legendary Kingston Flyer.
I've always were interested in trains
and in my haste I forgot about that
many trains and train lines
were only a memory those days.
The train used to run between Lumsden
and Kingstone in the summer holidays.
On my inquiries I was told that I can
catch up with it at Invercargill,
where it "runs around a rubbish tip".
You can imagine my haste to drive
to Invercargill to catch the 'Flyer',
before it flies into oblivion altogether
as many other memorable trains.
I did get a surprise, the Flyer was
running and I managed to catch it
and it was running from Invercargill
to Bluff Station.
Whether there was a rubbish tip in
between, I do not know, and
frankly, I didn't really care.
