New Zealand facts & history in brief
New Zealand Map
Kea
is a large New Zealand native parrot,
mainly green and scarlet under the wings.
Mostly found in the South Island mountains,
nests in rock crevices or hollow logs
and have very powerful beak and claws.
Farmers used to hunt them in fear
of killing sheep, but lately acknowledged
that it sometimes feeds on dead
carcasses.
Known to attack and damage
the rubber parts on cars.
I can confirm that, my windscreen
seals and wing mirrors were damaged
by them in Arthur's Pass in 1980.
