Christchurch
is on the Avon and Heathcote Rivers,
it is the largest city in the South
Island and the third largest in New Zealand,
with a population of over 300.000.
The city is very beautiful and
nicknamed the 'Garden City').
The Port Hills separate the city
from the busy Lyttelton Harbour.
Christchurch was settled by Europeans
around the 1850's and soon begin to
prosper as the service and market
town for the Canterbury Plains sheep,
mixed farming and horticulture.
Christchurch also have a strong
secondary industry, with some heavy
engineering, chemical
and rubber manufacturing.
