New Zealand facts & history in brief               New Zealand Map

Arrowtown

is on the western bank of the Arrow River, in Central Otago, near Queenstown, mainly a tourist centre.
Part of the main street was reconstructed as it was during the gold rush days.
In 1862, William Fox found gold nearby and the town grew overnight and resembled an American Wild West town.
In 1867, the town became a borough and is the service centre for the farming area, since the gold rush ended.
