Simontornya

Hungary


Simontornya is a town in Tolna county, Hungary.

Simontornya is at the northern confluence of the Sió and Sárviz Valley.
The tower fortress was built by Simon, a son of King Salamon and the town is named after (Simon's Tower) the tower which still dominates the town centre.

Simontornya was the Tolna county's administration centre in the 1700s.
Salamon Fried, from Moravia developed a lucrative and world renown leather factory, which still largely the cornerstone of the local economy.
Simontornya became a city in 1995 again and has excellent rail and road services.
The tower is well preserved and has been extended over the centuries, and still shows the different styles, of Gothic and Renaissance of the centuries gone by.
