Hungary, facts and history in brief Budapest, facts and history in brief SátorhelyHungarySátorhely is History Park, a few kilometres from Mohács. This is the place where the Turkish invaders due to their overwhelming numbers and firepower beaten the poorly led Hungarian defenders on August 29, 1526. The 'foreign' child king of Hungary drowned in the nearby brook, during the battle. This was a major turning point in Hungarian history. Due to the many ensuing battles and the long occupation by the Turkish and Austrian armies, also because of the division of the country into three different entities for over hundredfifty years the country lost a great many Hungarians. Many foreigners were settled during the occupation and afterwards in the largely depopulated country, hence the Trianon agreement after WWI., which shredded the thousand years old country to something less than one third. Sátorhely translates to campsite and is located at or near the Hungarian campsite at the beginning of the original battle. There was another battle practically at the same place and the Hungarians were victorious this time against the Turkish Army on the 12th August 1687. 2000
