Salgótarján is another large industrial city in the northern part of the Hungary.

Used to be a very busy industrial centre, with steel, glass and other heavy industries.

The communists made my family live in Endrefalva for a while.

I had to bike or bus over 20 km to high School in Salgótarján,.

The roads weren't up to much of a standard in those days, neither were the buses.

There were some hills on the way too.

Many a winter mornings the bus either did not turn up or was late or many times broke down on the way.

Well, well, those 'good old days'.

The last few times Hui Chin and I visited Salgótarján, most of the heavy industries were gone, so was my old school.

The town changed beyond my wildest expectations.

The most striking changes I saw all of Hungary over the years, except Tab perhaps and the political order of course.

The road and bus services are very much improved as well.

We motored along the road in our hired car in 2000 at speeds undreamt of those days.

Those high hills I had to cycle over, or the bus had to change gears many times, seemed to have shrunk too.
