Hungary, facts and history in brief Budapest, facts and history in brief MátészalkaHungaryMátészalka is a small city near the Romanian and Ukrainian border. The towns history can be traced back to 10th C., like many other settlements in Hungary, it was destroyed, razed to the ground and depopulated many times, especially during the Tartar, Mongol and Turkish invasions. During its checkered history it was a market place for the sorrounding district and in the last 200 years also served as the district administration centre a for a number of years. In the 15th C. the two settlements of Máté and Szalka united to form a rural-town. Major developments occurred the 19th C., until the Trianon agreement. In the later years Mátészalka the district capital for some time until 1950. During this time the city enjoyed major development which although last the administration of the district still going on. 2003
