Kecskemét is one of the larger Hungarian cities south of Budapest.

Archaeological discoveries tracing the towns history back to the Bronze Age, and early documents refer to it in the 4th C.

The town like many others in Hungary was razed during the Tartar, Mongol and Turkish invasions.

It's situation on the Great Hungarian Plains made it hard to defend.

Kecskemét today is an important road and rail and a county administrative centre in a fruit-growing region.

The city is a thriving commercial, business and industrial centre as well for the sorrounding district and manufacturing produce, food products, textiles, and agricultural machinery.

The city has several churches, a museum, and a law school with a large library, and many other attractive buildings and statues.

Estimated population is over 100,000.

Photo number 11 is The 'Háry Hotel', where we stayed in 2003. I do not usually endorse or mention much about our accommodations, but the 'Háry' is very close to the Railway and Bus station and it is fairly new, reasonably priced and the staff are friendly.
