Hungary, facts and history in brief Budapest, facts and history in brief KecskemétHungaryKecskemét is one of the larger Hungarian cities south of Budapest. Archaeological discoveries tracing the towns history back to the Bronze Age, and early documents refer to it in the 4th C. The town like many others in Hungary was razed during the Tartar, Mongol and Turkish invasions. It's situation on the Great Hungarian Plains made it hard to defend. Kecskemét today is an important road and rail and a county administrative centre in a fruit-growing region. The city is a thriving commercial, business and industrial centre as well for the sorrounding district and manufacturing produce, food products, textiles, and agricultural machinery. The city has several churches, a museum, and a law school with a large library, and many other attractive buildings and statues. Estimated population is over 100,000.
