I was born here and although I spent more than 50 years on the other side of the world in another beautiful country, New Zealand, I still love the place and am happy to go back anytime. I was pickled pink, when towards the end of the late 1970's the Hungarian communist regime acquired a 'Humane' face, relaxed it's rules regarding us, political refugees and a few other things and after 22 years I escaped the terror that engulfed Hungary after the brutal invasion of the Soviet Army, I was able to visit my mother, family and country, with my daughter Sarolta. Unfortunately I was too late to see my father, who passed away a few years earlier. I was very happy to be able to go back without the treat of harassment or some other 'nasty' consequences and Sarolta and I immensely enjoyed ourselves. I'm breaking tradition here, because normally I don't comment on any of our holiday accommodations. In Budapest, we usually stay in self-serviced apartments. Sometimes, they are part of a private apartment, sometimes they are set up for tourists, where nice, clean rooms let at a reasonable price with shared conveniences, are usually well presented and set up, like dishes, cutlery etc. They are clean, well furnished and centrally situated. We stayed at a few to date, but our best find was during our 2003 stay in Budapest. We returned to the Turbóks on our subsequent visits to Budapest. Very convenient, very central and very ambient place. Give this one a try: Very centrally situated, close to everything, the Landlord and Lady are very friendly, obliging and helpful, also their rates are very affordable too.
