4th November 2006 in Budapest

Hui Chin and I suppose many people in Budapest, in Hungary and probably around the world, were waiting with great anticipation and trepidation for this day's events, the 4th of November to unfold.
November the 4th was another milestone in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution - Freedom Fight - this was the day when Soviet forces invaded Hungary again to brutally suppress our glorious fight for freedom, despite their promises the previous few hours to honour the Hungarian peoples' demands regarding sovereignty, democracy, leaving the Warsaw Pact and withdrawing the Soviet Forces stationed in Hungary and a few other demands, there were 16.
(I suppose it was just too much for the Kremlin to swallow in those days).
Well the day arrived, and Hui Chin and I went to the city early as usual to do some more wandering around, as usual.
The city seemed fairly peaceful at a quick glance, but there was a very heavy and very heavily-armed Police presence just about everywhere and you could sense the tension and anticipation all around you.
Mind you, we were visiting all the famous and infamous places of 1956, so the Police presence wasn't entirely unexpected given the situation at the moment in Budapest and in Hungary as a whole.
As usual there were celebrations organised and held by the government and there were celebrations organised by FIDESZ, the main opposition party in the Parliament and the whole country.
(A few weeks days before, the FIDESZ declared that where the Government goes FIDESZ won't or something to that effect, and most of the people did the same). After visiting many places, Hui Chin and I attended the March with torches later that night with Mr Orbán and many hundreds of thousands other like-minded people.

A short video clip (My grateful thanks to Peter Adams) of the March is here
(You can actually see me and Hui Chin briefly a few seconds in, me with a blue beanie on, Hui Chin on my left, she is 5" nothing, so you have to look quick).
