Vatican - Revisited - 2007Rome, Italy The State of the Vatican City is the smallest
independent country in the world (both in area and in
population), a landlocked enclave surrounded by the
city of Rome in Italy. About Wikipedia Disclaimers This information was correct in December 2003. E. & O.E. During 1978, my daughter, Sarolta and I spent some time travelling around Italy, visiting many cities and other attractions. We spent a few days exploring the 'Eternal City' Rome. We have spent some time visiting the Vatican and Saint Peter's Basilica, Head Quarters of the world's Catholics like us, so to speak. Very beautiful, very Holy, awesome. On our way from Hungary to New Zealand in 1996, Hui Chin, Endre and I visited Rome. No visit to Rome would be complete without visiting the Vatican, especially for us practicing Catholics. We were fortunate enough to spend enough time to explore what was deplorable at the Holy See. Exceptionally beautiful and interesting place. During 2006 we visited the Rome again and one of our first priority was to visit the Vatican. After alighting from the Metro near the Vatican, we went to have a couple of bites and drinks and on our way we wondered in one of the marquees set up near the Vatican selling souvenirs etc. We noticed a little hammer/tool combination and we took our fancy to it, as we never seen one like it before and bought it for Endre, our son. That was a very bad move. We didn't know that there was a security check to get inside or near the Vatican. Going through the x-ray, the man yelled "hammer" and we were turned away. Hui Chin and I were around Italy, well in Russia and Hungary during late 2007 and as we had some unfinished business in Rome, like revisiting the Vatican, we spent another few days in the 'Eternal City'.
