Troy or Ilium was the centre
of power and wealth for hundreds
of years throughout history until
the heroic city was defeated by
a shrewd trick.
Archaeologists discovered seven
layers and many cities on the site.
Troy was in the second layer.
Charles Maclaren published his
'Iliad' in 1882, which immortalised
the heroic city, Troy.
