Turkey
Turkey facts and history in brief.
The city of Canakkale is a nice quiet and
friendly place, on the
Asian side of the Dardanelles Strait, when we
visited it, but played important roles
in the past and the present
as a crossing point or defence of
the Dardanelles Strait.
A regular ferry connects this city
with a number of other cities including
Eceabat, on the opposite, European
side of the strait.
We had a perfect day to explore
the Fortress built by Mehmet II,
the 'Conqueror' in the fifteenth
century and reinforced later to
defend the strait, the Military
Naval Museum and the nearby Troy.
