Switzerland, Central Europe
Switzerland
facts and history in brief
Murren is a picturesque, beautiful village at
5400 feet above sea level, in the Bernese Oberland.
The village is on the way to the majestic peak of the
Schilthorn at 9600 feet.
At the Schilthorn is the revolving restaurant Piz Gloria
with its awesome 360 degree panorama.
There is cable car from the village to Schilthorn/Piz
Gloria .
The James Bond movie, On Her Majestys Secret
Service, with Diana Rigg and 'Kojak', Telly Savalas
was filmed here.
Murren is high up above the Lauterbrunnen valley and
the view of the majestic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau
is awesome.
Murren is another carless township, except the occassional
electric vehicle.
Cars have to be left at Lauterbrunnen, from where you
can catch a funicular or cogwheel train to Murren.
Normally if you visiting the place, you will
probably have to catch a cogwheel train at Interlaken
East Station to Lauterbrunnen, where you catch another
cogwheel train to Murren.
You have to walk practically right across town to catch
the gondola to the Schilthorn, but it worth the walk,
the village is very picturesque and beautiful.
Well, what can I say?! I put the above story together
all on my own. Good, ah?
