KatrineholmSweden Katrineholm Municipality is a Municipality in Södermanland County, in central Sweden, where Katrineholm is seat with a population of 22,500. The name Katrineholm comes from a ducal residence with this name, after Catherina Gyllenhorn who lived there. The community started growing when it became a railway junction on the eastern main line railway (Västra Stambanan; connecting Stockholm and Gothenburg), which was established in 1883. A few years later, the northern main line (Norra Stambanan) also was located through Katrineholm, which further enhanced its geographical importance. In 1917 it had a population of 6,000, and had also fulfilled the requirements for the charter that it was granted that year. Today, Katrineholm has a strong industrial section. Current Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson comes from Katrineholm, and was once its mayor. External links

In 1978, my daughter, Sarolta and I visited Katrineholm. A very nice place to spend a few hours.
