Rasnov (German: Rosenau; Hungarian: Barcarozsnyó)
is a town in Brasov County, Romania
with a population of 16,242.
It is located at about 15 km from the city of
Brasov and about the same distance from Bran,
on the road that linked
Wallachia and Transylvania.
In Râsnov a citadel was built around the year
1215 by the Teutonic Knights and it was
mentioned for the first time in 1331.
The citadel was conquered only once in its
history, around the year 1600 by Gabriel Báthory.

After the day Hui Chin and I spent nearly a day reporting the
theft of two of our cameras and my vallet at one of the
Brasov Police Station during our trip around
Romania in 2005, we hired a Taxi (A safer mode of transport
around here), to visit Rasnov and Bran Castles.
Unfortunately it was raining on and off most of the day, so
I couldn't photograph everything that I was hoping to.
Rasnov Castle or Fortress is an interesting tourist
site.
