AradRomania Arad is a commercial and industrial city, in the Banat Region, western Romania, on the Mures River near the Hungarian border. Capital of Arad county and a railway junction linking Budapest, Bucharest, and Belgrade. Principal industries include sawmilling, locomotive, machine-tool, and textile manufacturing, electrical goods, flour milling, and distilling. Founded in the 11th century, it was part of Hungary until 1920. It has a citadel built by Empress Maria Theresa in the 18th century. Population about 200 thousand. Hui Chin and I found Arad a very nice large city, near the Hungarian border. Full of interesting sights and things to do. Have a very interesting history too. After the four power suppression of the 1848
Hungarian Revolution, the leading 13 Hungarian
Generals and politicians were executed here.
