Austria

Austria facts and history in brief

I can't find any information about Lutzmansburg in books or on the Internet, but it is there and it was there as a bright 'Beacon' of light in late December 1956 as I was helped to escape   from Hungary and the following retaliations after the Soviet Forces brutally crushed our    Revolution   and after being    shot   and    caught twice,   previously.

I have a very soft spot for   Lutzmansburg,    Oberpullendorf,   Eisenstadt,    Hörsching,    Vienna,    Austria and the very nice people of Austria.

Our group was led by a Hungarian man from the other side of the border during the middle of the night, through a cornfield and I can still remember seeing one of those high tower not far from us, (Those guards must have been paid off) waiting for the searchlight being shined on our fleeing group.

A short time later, that seemed eternity at the time, we seen the very bright lights of a little guard house, brilliantly lit up inside and out, on our right, just for us escapees as we were informed later.

The guards at the little guardhouse and the people at Lutzmansburg - many of them spoke Hungarian - greeted us with exceptional warmth and enthusiasm.

My grateful thanks to you all.

Austria and Vienna was also an eye opener for me at the time.

Coming from a bleak, repressive Communist country, I was awe-struck by the happiness, the brilliance of Vienna and the feeling of abundance and freedom in the air.

In the next few days our group was taken to Oberpullendorf, than to Eisenstadt and because I had a friend in Vienna, a kind young lady driven me to Vienna.

I arrived in Vienna just before Christmas and the streets and shops were decorated and glowing with the brilliance and abundance of a free country's spirit of Christmas.

I love you Austria.

Thank you very much again, again and again.
